T'was
the Night Before Christmas....
(In the village of course)
By
Marla Johnson
T'was
the night before Christmas (in the village of
course),
when all through the land
Not a morsel was found, not in their cupboard nor
in their hand.
They don't have stockings, most don't even have
shoes,
But they all hope the missionary's promise is
true.
Now, the children were nestled all snug on their
mats,
With visions of tamales, toys and things like
that.
mamma in her apron, and I with my machete,
Had just finished our chores, all hot and sweaty.
When over at the church there arose such a
clatter,
Instantly we went to see what was the matter.
It was Mundo or maybe it was Ana,
One thing is for sure, it wasn't ole Santa!
When, what for my wondering eyes to see,
But a bright blue Kia, or maybe it was a green
Mitsubishi.
The sun was shining with such a glare
you could hardly see all the gifts in there.
With both of the drivers, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it wasn't a trick.
Away in a manger, and the First Noel,
were surely being sung by Pastor Manuel.
"Now Lopez! now, Juarez! now, Morales and
Gonzales!
Come, Juan! Come, Maria! Come, Yesica get your
tamales!
From the top of the hill! to the top of the wall!
Get in line! Get in line! Get in line all!"
And then, in a twinkling, I heard the Pastor
Giving Glory to God and praising the Master .
As I lifted my head, and was turning around,
I could see all the bags that had been brought
down.
Pastor had his list, reading from start to finish,
He called the names on which he would lavish.
A bundle of toys he'd pulled from the bag,
He looked around for the family name tag.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, cause he was working
in such a hurry!
The days here are quite warm, And the nights quite
chilly
We give away blankets, it's really not silly.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his
chore,
He gave to everyone, and then did more.
While laying his hand on his heart,
Thanksgiving and a prayer was just the start!
He told of so many who gave to the villagers
there,
How they send their love and a special prayer.
He told of a God that sent forth His Son,
"So they could all Know Him before the night
was done!"
The Pastor told of the virgin and the blood that
was shed
He said because of that love they would all be fed
Many gave their hearts to the Lord that night
So if you are considering giving....please know
that you're right!
Because of your giving there will be no regret
With your love extending, the needs will be met
All Glory To God for the lives that are changed
In the house of the Lord a life rearranged
In this special project each one has a part
of sharing God's love straight from the heart
because of your giving our hearts have been knit
and we will end this poem as is fit....
T'was
the night before Christmas in the village and all
was well
Feliz Navidad and Merry Christmas as well!
